HOLIDAY SAFETY RESOURCES

The holiday season is upon us and with that come all the holiday goodies that humans love.  Unfortunately, many pet owners may want to succumb to the beseeching puppy dog looks that beg the human to "Please share that snack with me!"  However, many of the things that are fit for human consumption are deadly to dogs and other pets.

In general, the symptoms of poisoning include, but are not limited to:

Try to determine what the pet ingested and how much. Try to save the container, if applicable and bring it to the vet along with your pet.

In all cases, you should call your veterinarian or poison control center immediately. Do not induce vomiting. This can cause further damage to your pet's esophagus in the case of caustic substances.  In cases of toxic materials or chemicals on the skin resulting from contact with oils, paints, insecticides and other irritants, obtain directions on how to wash the toxin off if applicable.

Rather than provide a list of poisonous foods and substances, Rover's Recess is providing resources to information regarding pet poisoning and what to do.
