Django

Here he comes....

What's that....???

What does he hear...?
To find out, click on the picture!

Like many dog owners, I wasn't planning on adopting a dog that day, but this little guy found me on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville.  He was adopted from the Louisa County S.P.C.A., and is a German Shepard/Black Lab mix, with a little Border Collie too. He was 12 weeks old and about 15 lbs. Django was about 5 months old in the photos. He's now 9 months old and over 60 lbs! As you can see, his ears are....well, distinctive.    Most everyone who meets him gets a good laugh out of his ears which mostly stand straight up. He is named after Django Rheinhard, a French guitar player from the 1920's. He's very loveable, loves to carry his own leash while on a walk, and gets along great with other dogs.  In the morning, he gets into bed and cuddles and burrows his nose underneath me. He also loves to play in the water and chase birds and squirrels. He now lives with me in New Mexico and has learned to stay away from cactus while on the trails!

Lester

The Lover!
To see a larger view, click on the pic!

Here is Lester, a long-legged Jack Russell terrier.  Ever ready to chase a ball or Frisbee, he brings it back, but won't always let it go!   Born and raised in Charlottesville, he turned 6 years old in September. One of his more clever behaviors occurs when no one will throw a toy for him. He puts it under a sofa or through the fence, barking plaintively until someone comes to rescue it (and play)

Although protective and territorial through out the day, Lester is a lover in the evening, snuggling up to pretty much whoever is on the sofa and giving copious kisses. He is a very important part of our family.

Bonnie

This is Bonnie, a terrier mix we were lucky to obtain from Caring for Creatures.  She is 5 years old and is the perfect dog.  Her job, as she views it, is to keep squirrels off the bird feeder.  This means she has to watch it at all times.  Besides eating, her favorite thing to do is to run free off leash down our back bank and have an excellent adventure!

Bonnie is a dog who needs her privacy. Although friendly, she soon retreats to her own space - except if small children come visiting. Then she can't get enough of them and worries if they cry or fret. She's also our Jeep pup, loving to travel. We couldn't ask for a better companion than our Bonnie lass!

Mokh Tar

For a larger view, click on the picture

Mokh Tar is a highly energetic 3 year who will probably be a puppy his whole life. He is a Pharoh hound whose lineage dates back to the times of the ancient rulers of Egypt. The breed was rediscovered this past century on the island of Malta.

He is a real "chow hound" who likes everything except beer, wasabi, and ginger. He loves to run, sleep and play with anyone who is game. His nickname is "Bubameister."

Jack
A Suave Samoyed

My name is Jack. I was rescued from an animal shelter in October, 2001 by my Mom, who sometimes helps out with Samoyed rescue efforts. When I was picked up from the shelter I was filthy from the icky stuff on the bottom
of my cage being sprayed up on me with a hose every night. I was also covered from head to toe with a yeast infection, which I apparently had developed before being dropped off at the shelter.

My Mom didn't plan on keeping me at time she picked me up, she was just supposed to transport me to another location because my time at the shelter was running out. However, after she took me to the house of another rescue volunteer and they helped clean me up, I was already starting to grow on
her due to my sweet temperament!! I pretty much sealed the deal by getting along so well with her cats when I met them. :)

After a few more baths and being put on some inexpensive medication to help with my low thyroid condition, I am once again a beautiful Samoyed. I am a very well-behaved boy, some say I'm a bit of a Momma's boy, because I rarely  let her out of my sight. Well, that's not entirely true, with the cold weather lately, I do enjoy sitting out on the deck at night by myself, hoping and praying that some deer will wander by!!

Anyway, I just wanted to say "Happy Holidays" and if you are interested in Samoyed rescue, please take a look at www.samrescue.com to see more sweet boys and girls who would be thrilled to find loving homes like I did.

Best Regards,

Jack

Lilly
A Pampered Poodle

My name is Lily, and I'm a white toy poodle. I was born on November 16 1998, along with my sister, Aurora, and my brothers, George and Zeus. I lived with my mother and siblings in a playpen until one Sunday in January, when two ladies came to look at the four of us. To get a better look at us, they took us outside and put us on the snow. My siblings huddled together, but I took off.  Apparently, that was one of the reasons I was selected. I didn't leave that day, since the ladies had to prepare for me.

Off I went to the vet for a final checkup, and I was brought to my new home. I was turned over to the ladies with two of my favorite toys. I still play with my toy bull every day!  These ladies are nuts about dogs, so our relationship has worked out pretty well. They took me to obedience classes after I was six months old. The humans flunked! It was 103 degrees, and they didn't feel like running around in circles with me in all that heat.

I love my humans!.  I'm very spoiled, pampered, and well cared for.   And above all, I am loved!  A dog couldn't ask for more.   Rover's Recess helps out when my ladies can't take care of me.......they are grrreat too!

Mattie is an AKC registered Black Labrador Retriever who was born on April 9, 2000 at Broad Reach by breeders Martha Lee and Buddy Vosnell.  She is an integral part of Andrew Minton Jewelers, where she resides during the week.  She is fondly known as "Door Mattie" because she loves to lay on the cool tile at the front door and greet all visitors. Mattie is especially fond of children.  Still a puppy, she has a lot of energy and a mind of her own. Grayson and Cynthia have done wonderful work with her and she looks forward to her walks with them.

Hi, my name is Sadie.  I live with my "mom," Ellen, Maya, and 2 cats, Iris and Mickah.  I am around 8 years old.  I was adopted from the Humane Society in Vermont, and moved to Virginia with my owners. When I was younger, I had so much energy that I used to grab the toilet paper from the roll with my teeth and spread it around by running through the house. I am much calmer now, as you can see by my picture.

I have several canine friends right nearby, one named Charlie, and the other is Flap!  We love to run through the fields. Rover's Recess has been walking me longer than any other of their dog clients.  I get soooo excited when Rover's Recess comes to walk me. Cynthia and Grayson are my buddies, and I can tell how much they love me.

Bye!
Sadie
